Every year nearly 4 million dogs enter shelters here in the U.S. Susan Watson recently spent the morning with an organization that puts boots on the ground, hiking boots, that is, in an effort to help local canines put their best paw forward and find their forever home.

Susan Watson has been involved with Tennessee Crossroads, both behind and in front of the camera, since 1988. A Middle Tennessee native, Watson studied Spanish in high school and became interested in Mexican culture. She occasionally traveled to Mexico to teach English to middle-school children.
