When we need a bag of flour or cornmeal, all we have to do is visit the closest market but, back in the early 1800’s it wasn’t so easy. Folks grew their own grain and took it to the local grist mill for grinding into these staples. Ken Wilshire visited the old Readyville Mill in Cannon county recently to see how one grist mill has been restored and the new owners are doing far more than grinding corn.
